What is a Homestay?

A "Homestay" is a cultural exchange between a local individual or family (called a "homestay host") and a visiting international student who is completely immersed in the language and culture of a local community through a shared living experience with a homestay host. The homestay host provides a basic furnished room, private or shared bath, internet/TV access, and meals. In return, the student pays a modest monthly "homestay fee," which is used to reimburse his or her host's daily expenses.

Mark's Homestay Hosts offer more than just a room to rent-they share their lives by inviting students to participate in enriching family activities, local cultural traditions, and language practice opportunities. For the student, the homestay is the ideal, friendly environment to learn English and experience American Culture

Types of Homestays

Mark's Homestay has a large network of loving individuals and families ready to open their arms to you. We offer students two welcoming homestays options:

  1. Family Host or
  2. Individual Host.

Each option will provide you a unique immersion experience into American culture. The choice is yours!

Family Host:

A family host may consist of a married couple or partners living together in a home. A family host provides you a unique glimpse into American family life, ample opportunities to practice English with various age groups, and access to fun group activities. On your application, you can indicate whether you want a family homestay with children or without children. Ages of our family host may vary.

Individual Host:

An individual host consists of one person, male or female, living alone or with children. Choosing an individual host gives you access to diverse range of activities often not provided by our family hosts. Singles host often have more free time to invest in your life. On your application, you can indicate your host preference-with or without children, male or female. Ages of our individual hosts may vary.

If you have no homestay type preference, simply indicate the "no preference" option your student application.
